I'm Mark Mercer. Chief of Staff at Firecrawl, a fast-growing AI startup transforming how businesses extract and understand web data.
My path here wasn't drawn from a playbook. I spent years in retail leadership at Best Buy, Express, and West Elm, learning how to read a room, coach under pressure, and build teams that perform when it counts.
Then I spent 13 years in education, building nationally recognized theater programs from scratch — managing budgets, rallying communities, producing shows with 2500+ performers. That chapter taught me something most operators never learn: how to create culture so magnetic that people fight to be part of it.
I brought all of that into tech at Wefunder, where I built the entire customer experience organization and found my next gear. Then Firecrawl came calling, and now I'm doing what I love most: building the operational backbone of a company that's moving at startup speed.
I also finished an MBA in Finance along the way solidifying my third degree — 4.0 GPA, President's Honor Roll — because apparently I don't know how to sit still.
The theme parks? They're not just a hobby. The way great parks orchestrate story, engineering, logistics, and joy — that's my mental model for operations. High stakes. High craft. Lots of moving pieces.
